Rotating proxies
Rotating proxies with a new IP on every request
Send each request from a different residential or mobile IP, or hold one address for as long as a task needs it. Rotation is controlled from the username, so there are no IP lists to manage.
# Rotating: a new US residential IP on every request
for i in 1 2 3; do
curl -s -x http://gw.proxonym.com:8000 -U "USERNAME-country-us:PASSWORD" https://api.ipify.org; echo
done
# Sticky: the same IP for every request in session a7k2, for up to 30 minutes
for i in 1 2 3; do
curl -s -x http://gw.proxonym.com:8000 \
-U "USERNAME-country-us-session-a7k2-lifetime-30:PASSWORD" https://api.ipify.org; echo

What are rotating proxies?
A rotating proxy is a single gateway address that forwards your requests through different IPs from a large pool. Your code always connects to gw.proxonym.com:8000, and the gateway picks a fresh exit IP for each request, so traffic spreads across many real connections instead of piling up on one.
Rotation solves the most common scraping problem: per-IP rate limits. When no single address sends more than a few requests, targets have far less reason to throttle or block you. When a task needs continuity, such as a login or a checkout flow, a sticky session keeps the same IP for up to 120 minutes on residential proxies.
On Proxonym, rotation is the default on residential, unlimited residential and mobile plans. To decide when to switch modes, read rotating vs sticky sessions.
| Feature | Rotating proxies | Static proxies |
|---|---|---|
| IP changes | Every request, or per sticky session | Never during your term |
| Typical use | Scraping, SERP and price checks | Accounts, logins, allowlisted access |
| Rate-limit exposure | Spread across the pool | All traffic on one address |
| Session control | Sticky up to 120 min on residential | Always the same IP |
| Pool size | 55M+ residential IPs | The IPs on your plan |
| Billing | Per GB, or per bandwidth on unlimited | Per IP |
| Proxonym products | Residential, unlimited, mobile | ISP, datacenter, dedicated |
Benefits
Why teams choose rotating proxies.
What changes for your jobs once rotating proxies are part of the setup.
A new IP per request
Leave out the session parameter and every request on residential and unlimited plans exits from a different IP, so per-IP limits stop slowing your jobs down.
Sticky when you need it
Add -session-{id} to keep one IP for up to 120 minutes on residential, 12 hours on unlimited or 3 minutes on mobile, then let it rotate again.
Rotation inside any location
Combine rotation with -country-, -state-, -city- or -asn- targeting, and every new IP still comes from the place or network you chose.
One endpoint, no lists
There are no IP lists to download or refresh. One hostname and port serve the whole pool, with unlimited concurrent sessions on every plan.
How it works
Set up in three steps.
Same account, same credentials for every proxy type. Connection details live in your dashboard.
- 1
Connect to one gateway
Point your client at gw.proxonym.com:8000 for HTTP and HTTPS, or port 1080 for SOCKS5, with the username and password from your dashboard.
- 2
Pick the mode in the username
No session parameter means a new IP on every request. Add -session-a7k2 to stick to one IP, and -lifetime-30 to set how many minutes it lasts.
- 3
Retry on a fresh IP
If a request fails with a 502, send it again: without a session it leaves from a new IP. In a sticky session, change the session ID to switch addresses.

Ask a proxy expertWhat is the difference between rotating and sticky sessions?
Rotating sessions use a new IP for every request, which spreads load and avoids per-IP limits. Sticky sessions keep one IP for a set time so logins, carts and pagination stay consistent. On Proxonym you switch between them with the -session- parameter in your username, on the same gateway and port.
How often does the IP change?
Without a session parameter, residential and unlimited plans assign a new IP to every request, and mobile proxies rotate per connection. With -session-, the IP stays for 10 minutes by default, adjustable with -lifetime- up to 120 minutes on residential, 720 on unlimited and 3 on mobile.
Can I rotate IPs within one city or ISP?
Yes. Rotation respects your targeting: USERNAME-country-us-city-chicago rotates through Chicago IPs, and USERNAME-asn-7922 rotates through Comcast addresses. Use state or city, not both, and keep the targeting broad enough that the pool stays large for your request volume. The narrower the target, the fewer IPs there are to rotate through.
Do datacenter and ISP proxies rotate?
No, they are static by design. Shared datacenter plans give you a fixed list of IPs, and ISP and dedicated proxies stay yours for the whole term. You can still cycle through a list in your own code, but for automatic rotation choose residential, unlimited or mobile proxies.
Do rotating proxies cost more?
Rotation is included on every residential, mobile and unlimited plan. Residential and mobile are billed per GB, down to $0.74 at volume, and unlimited residential per bandwidth, from $33.25 per day. You pay for traffic or speed, never for the number of IPs you rotate through.
